Find Federal Prison Releases

To find someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in a matter connected with Lincoln County, search the federal locator rather than the county jail or Tennessee state offender system. A BOP release result can confirm that federal prison custody ended and can show a past release date. It does not prove that all legal restraint ended. Federal supervised release may follow, and another authority may take custody. No federal prison was identified in Lincoln County. The nationwide BOP system and its record routes serve a federal case, not a local detention building.

BOP Lincoln County Release Route

The Federal Bureau of Prisons holds people convicted and committed to federal custody. It does not operate an ordinary Lincoln County jail and does not cover most people booked on local Tennessee charges. A federal connection must exist, such as a federal judgment followed by commitment to BOP. Federal pretrial custody may instead remain with the U.S. Marshals Service and a contract jail before commitment.

Once a sentenced person enters BOP, the inmate locator is the main public status route. A past release date, no current BOP facility, and the status “RELEASED” establish that the person is no longer in BOP custody. They do not establish that federal supervised release ended, that an immigration or state detainer was cleared, or that another agency did not receive the person. The federal docket and release paperwork answer those additional questions.

Important: “RELEASED” in the BOP locator means released from BOP custody, not necessarily free from every agency or court condition.

Search BOP Lincoln Release Records

The BOP inmate locator contains federal inmate records from 1982 to the present. Identifier search is the most precise route. It accepts a BOP register number, FBI number, DCDC number, or INS number. Name search accepts first, middle, and last name with optional race, sex, and age filters.

  1. Choose identifier search when a federal number is known.
  2. Otherwise enter the full name and add filters only to separate similar records.
  3. Match the register number and demographics before using the result.
  4. Read the location or status and the release date together.
  5. For a past date, check whether the result says “RELEASED” and lists no current facility.
  6. Use the federal docket or another agency’s locator when supervision or a handoff may have followed.

A name match alone can be wrong. Federal records use distinct numbers, and the same person may have appeared in county, state, or immigration systems at another stage. The BOP result proves only its own custody event. If a Lincoln County jail sheet names federal custody as the destination, determine whether that meant USMS pretrial control or actual BOP commitment.

Read BOP Lincoln Release Dates

BOP distinguishes past, future, and unknown dates. A past date shown with “RELEASED” and no current facility indicates that BOP custody ended. A future date is projected. It can change after sentence-credit calculations or other adjustments, including recalculation under the First Step Act. “UNKNOWN” means BOP has not determined the term or release date.

The official explanation of federal inmate records provides the correct context for those labels.

Federal Bureau of Prisons release date guidance for a Lincoln County matter

The guidance prevents a future projected date from being mistaken for a completed release and explains why an old record may require another archive.

Records before 1982 route to the National Archives. A useful archive inquiry includes full name, birth date or approximate age, race, and approximate prison dates. More detailed modern records may require BOP FOIA and can be restricted for privacy, security, or law-enforcement reasons.

Note: Confirm a projected BOP date with the institution before relying on it for travel, pickup, or a court filing.

BOP Lincoln Release Destinations

A federal release can take several paths. The person may return to the community and begin court-ordered supervised release. BOP may transfer the person to another authority under a detainer. Immigration custody may follow. State or local custody may resume on another case or sentence. The locator alone may not identify every next step.

A detainer is a request or basis for another authority to receive or hold the person. It explains why “released by BOP” may coexist with continued confinement. The federal court docket can also show a supervised-release term, judgment, modification, or later violation proceeding. Supervised release is a court-ordered period after imprisonment and is not the same as Tennessee parole.

Where does the person go? Read the BOP event, federal judgment, and receiving-agency record as a sequence. No single nationwide search merges those systems.

BOP Lincoln Records and Contact

The locator supplies a public summary. For additional federal prison records, use BOP’s Freedom of Information Act route. A focused request should identify the person by full name and register number, define the date range, and name the release or transfer record requested. Broad requests can take longer and may include more exempt material.

Privacy rules can limit access to another person’s detailed records. Agency records may also contain law-enforcement, medical, security, victim, or third-party information that is withheld or redacted. A locator result remains the clearest public proof that BOP itself recorded release. A certified or detailed need should identify the exact document rather than ask staff to create a narrative.

The federal court is a separate source. The judgment establishes the prison and supervised-release terms, while docket orders may show later changes. For a person not yet committed to BOP, contact the actual custodial jail or use the USMS process. BOP should not be asked to explain a purely local Lincoln County release.

No BOP Prison in Lincoln

No federal prison was identified inside Lincoln County. The state county report identifies one local certified correctional facility and no state prison operation, and the federal facility sweep found no BOP institution there. That does not mean a Lincoln resident or a person arrested in the area cannot enter federal custody. It means the actual federal facility must be found through the nationwide system.

A local Sheriff record that says “federal” should be treated as a routing clue. Ask for the receiving agency. USMS often manages federal prisoners pending proceedings and can house them in facilities operated by other entities. BOP becomes the proper locator after commitment and designation. ICE is a civil immigration system with its own locator. These labels must not be used interchangeably.

The facility map therefore lists the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a system serving a Lincoln matter, not as a building in Fayetteville. This distinction is part of accurate release reporting. The county event can end while federal custody starts, and the eventual BOP release may take place far outside Tennessee.

Lincoln Federal Release Record Chain

A complete federal release check often uses more than one source. The county release sheet can show that local custody ended and identify a federal receiving agency. The federal docket can establish the case, judgment, and supervision terms. USMS records cover pretrial handling. BOP covers imprisonment and release from its custody. ICE covers a later civil immigration detention event when one exists.

  1. Obtain the local destination field if the person first left Lincoln County detention.
  2. Confirm the federal case and custody order in the correct court docket.
  3. Use USMS or the actual holding jail before BOP commitment.
  4. Use the BOP locator after designation and for BOP release status.
  5. Check ICE or another receiving agency when a detainer or transfer appears.

This chain avoids two common errors. The first is treating transfer out of Lincoln County as community release. The second is treating release from BOP as proof that no other custody or supervision followed. Each agency can verify only the part of the event it created.

For a named-person search that may span county, state, and federal routes, the Lincoln County release records hub starts with the custody type and destination. That step should precede any locator search.

Note: A federal record should be described by its actual custodian, date, status, and destination, not merely by geographic connection to Lincoln County.
